Thirty Five Days to Go!

17th Mar 2019

Were you counting? Well if you were, it;s not long before we all meet at Kingham Hill School for another edition of the famous Sore Fingers Week.

Scratch Band news

We’ve joined the twenty first century and automated the registration process for folks who want to participate in the Famous Sore Fingers Student concert by joining a “performing Scratch Band”. Alternatively, if you are still a little shy of taking to the stage, you can join the “non-performing scratch band stream. The form caters for either of those choices.

Have a read of the “Scratch Band” Section on the Experience page to learn more about these programmes. They are a highlight for many who come and join us each year.

You can find the link to the registration form on both the "Experience" and "Links" pages of this site.

Moira and I would like to thank all the individuals who stepped in to help us sponsor young musicians this year. They wish to remain anonymous but, a public thank you is still appropriate. You know who you are and your efforts amounted to a total of £890.00. Pretty impressive. A massive thanks.

We have also put out a couple of appeals for loan instruments to help students travelling from abroad and again, the community rallied! We needed a bass and a mandolin. We received about fifteen responses overall. Another thank you from us. You are a great crowd and it all goes to show that all the work we do, we’re doing for great people who not only know how to have a good time but also are generous. You are a pleasure to do business with!

Well thirty five days out mean that the heat is on at Sore Fingers Towers and we scramble to get everything ready, hired and ordered for your enjoyment next month. With a bit of luck, the weather will be with us too being so late in April.

So, if you haven’t booked yet and intend to do so, please help us by no leaving it t the last minute but we do accept booking up until the day before it all starts as long as there is a place on the course of your choice.

Well that’s about it for now except for a final point. S.F.Week, being very late this year, will mark the beginning of a bit of a marathon of Bluegrass and Old Time, actually three weeks of it!.
The weekend after S.F. is the Crossover Festival up near Congleton running Fri 3rd to Mon 6th May. Apart from being generous sponsors to Sore Fingers, it’s a great festival, lovely site and top quality bands. Well worth a visit Check is out at http://www.crossoverfest.com

Following that, will be the final Orwell Bluegrass Festival near Ipswich in Suffolk Fri 10th to Sun 12th May. Another great line up of performers on the bill and some surprises as they will be celebrating their last event. The site there is also great, lots of good facilities, showers, nice camping area good bands, good beer and lovely walks by the Estuary. Can’t beat it. Check that one out at http://www.orwellbluegrass.co.uk

The Captain is going to both events – so should you!

It’s going to be an exciting spring isn’t it?

Cheers

John & Moira and the team.
