We hope everyone had a wonderful festival season and plenty of opportunity to have a relaxing break this summer.

Sore Fingers never quite goes to sleep – at least not in this household - and now I think it’s time we got back on track with some communication about the latest developments.

Last Easter our fantastic team made it possible to produce another classic series of training courses along with a lot of fun and great music. Congratulations Team! You made us feel very proud.

There were some unforgettable performances in the Evening Showcases, the Tutor Concert and of course, the Student Concert. Videos were posted on Facebook in abundance meaning you can still look back and get those Sore Fingers sensations going.
Again, well done, Team!

Our next event, the October Weekend is fast approaching. No sooner will you have come down from the late festivals in September than it will be time head out for Kingham Hill School to round it all off.

We’ve got a stellar line up of UK based tutors for you, all top of their game and ready to show you the finer points of Bluegrass and Old Time playing, singing and an introductory course for those wishing to get creative and understand a little more about musical structure and the art of arranging.

Here’s the full line up of courses and tutors:

BANJO - CHRIS LORD
BASS – SAM ROSE
DOBRO – LAURA CARRIVICK
FIDDLE – NILES KRIEGER
GUITAR – CHARLOTTE CARRIVICK
MANDOLIN – EVAN DAVIES
O.T. BANJO – ED HICKS
O.T. FIDDLE – JERI FOREMAN
SINGING – ROGER JACKSON
UKULELE – PERCY COPLEY
INTRO TO MUSIC DEVELOPEMENT – TREVOR HYETT

There will no Choro class due to unavailability of the tutors and at present, there is no plan to run an Autoharp class due to poor take up in recent years. Autoharp will return next Easter.

Check the "courses" page for the full bios

We welcome back Laura and Charlotte Carrivick who have been busy with young’uns over the past few years. Last June Charlotte also participated in the highly rated Blue Ridge Guitar camp run by Bryan Sutton (More about him later). As far as I know, this is the first time a UK Bluegrass artists has broken into the US camp scene. Hat’s off, she
deserves the recognition!

Be in no doubt, the teaching will be “UP THERE” and we can expect some fireworks when these guys take the stage for the tutor concert on the Saturday evening.
You can download a booking form the "Bookings" page

If you haven’t been to Sore Fingers before, the October Weekend is the way to sample what it’s all about without committing to a full five days. And remember, this is a music school, you don’t have to have achieved a minimum level to attend. We and the team of tutors are here to help you through those difficult first steps in your musical journey.

A few words about Easter 2025 for which we are busy building the tutor list.

Already booked are Mandolin tutors, Matt Flinner and Andrew Collins. For banjo players, Jeff Scroggins is confirmed, he had to pull out of the 2024 event. Master Dobro player, Sally Van Meter will be making a welcome return after several years of absence.
Regulars, Ed Hicks and Peter Earle will be heading up our dedicated beginner’s team with Andy Mackenzie and Mike Pryor helping you to grow your creativity in their Music Development Class. .

We are still striving to bring you the best and have feelers out with Bryan Sutton – Guitar, Steven Mougin - Singing and Gregory Garrison - Bass.

Exchanges on Facebook, Forum, etc. have exhibited several suggestions for banjo tutors to side up with Jeff. More news on that soon.

It might take a few weeks to complete the line up but if you’re as confident as we are that the lineup will again be fantastic, you can send your Easter 2025 booking form in. These are available to download on the "Bookings" page.
