NILES KRIEGER - FIDDLE
Originally from Connecticut, Niles Krieger plays with The highly acclaimed “Often Herd” . He graduated from Newcastle University’s Folk and Traditional Music course in 2015 and has since completed his master’s degree, which involved researching the social history and repertoire of the fiddle in 18th Century New England. As a performer and teacher, however, Niles is most likely to be found playing bluegrass. His smooth, bluesy style marries the traditional with the contemporary and is influenced heavily by the likes of Kenny Baker, Byron Berline and Stuart Duncan, although it incorporates aspects of the many different types of music he is inspired by. In addition to playing the fiddle, Niles plays mandolin and guitar and sings. EVAN DAVIES - MANDOLIN
Evan is an experienced teacher, having provided private mandolin, guitar and banjo lessons for over 5 years and since 2017 has been a tutor at Leeds College of Music for their BA (Folk) course.
He is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter based in Leeds, UK and grew up surrounded by creativity. He decided from an early age that musical invention and performance was his passion. Beginning at age 12 on the electric guitar and finding confidence playing rock and metal music, he later discovered bluegrass and folk, taking up the mandolin. In recent years, he has gained a reputation in the UK folk/roots scene as a proficient and creative practitioner with bold and inventive artistic ideas.
He has performed at festivals including Edinburgh Fringe, SummerTyne Americana, Twinwood Festival and many bluegrass festivals around the UK, Netherlands and France. He has also supported Grammy winning/nominated artists including Sarah Jarosz, Tim O’Brien and Yola Carter, as well as Chance McCoy (Old Crow Medicine Show), Chatham County Line and Holy Moly and the Crackers. As a sideman, Evan has also appeared onstage alongside renowned Swedish fiddler Lena Jonsson and New York jazz-bluegrass legend Grant Gordy. Website

LAURA CARRIVICK - DOBRO
Laura has grown up playing music. She draws inspiration from her passion for traditional American old time and bluegrass music, English folklore and plays several instruments including guitar, fiddle, and dobro. Performing professionally together since 2006 Laura has toured internationally, picking up fans and stories along the road and now has 7 albums under her belt. Aside from playing as a duo with her sister Charlotte, Laura has been involved in many other bands and projects through the years, including the twice IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) Award nominated, Island Recording artists, Midnight Skyracer. CHARLOTTE CARRIVICK - GUITAR
An experienced player and teacher, Charlotte Carrivick is no stranger to Sore Fingers having attended the camp for many years both as a student and as a teacher. Described by Q Magazine as having ‘formidable multi-instrumental skills’, She plays mandolin, guitar and Old Time banjo professionally and, like her sister Laura, Charlotte has been involved in many other bands and projects through the years, including the twice IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) Award nominated, Island Recording artists, Midnight Skyracer.
Charlotte has been teaching classes at Sore Fingers for a few years now and is another tutor who lives and breathes the S.F. dream sharing her enthusiasm for the event with all her students. She hopes to keep the course fun and interesting and aims to build on students’ prior knowledge of the instrument to provide a foundation on which they can continue to learn and develop their playing after the weekend. SAM ROSE - BASS
Sam is a proficient performer who cut his teeth on the London live music circuit, gigging regularly on both guitar and double bass at venues such as the Southbank Centre; the Blues Kitchen; the Green Note; the Convention Centre Dublin and a variety of festivals such as the Isle of White and Wilderness. He is also one of between twenty five and fifty musicians to have played inside the Houses of Parliament.
Sam enjoys playing and teaching a wide variety of styles; ranging from metal to jazz, and indie to bluegrass. His studies have equipped him with an in-depth knowledge of harmony and theory, and, in his sixteen years of playing, has developed priceless experience which he endeavours to pass on to his students Website

ROGER JACKSON - SINGING
Roger is a fan of Americana and Bluegrass music, and plays mandolin and guitar with his trio “BlueJay”. He leads singing and harmony workshops at festivals and events around the UK and abroad. While these events always have lots of singing, some may include tuition about making harmonies, or improving your technique. Roger excels at creating a relaxed atmosphere where singers can relax and let their singing confidence grow. As well as singing, Roger composes and arranges music, sells his choral arrangements and leads songwriting workshops. His instruments are keyboards, guitar and mandolin. Website

JERI FOREMAN - OLD TIME FIDDLE
Jeri is a fiddle player and tune writer from Australia, living in Scotland and working as a traditional musician. She studied several fiddle styles in depth and holds a degree in classical violin. Her teaching philosophy is to try to use repertoire that students love, in order to teach good technique and music theory. She especially enjoys teaching style and tune form. She gets many gigs as a result of being able to learn things fast and likes to pass on those tricks too. Genres of specialty include Scottish, Irish, Bluegrass, Old Time and Australian Celtic fiddle, with areas of interest in Old Time accompaniment, Americana, Scandinavian, Quebecois and Asturian music. ED HICKS - OLD TIME BANJO
Ed is a London based banjo player with fifteen years of experience performing, recording and teaching with the 5-string banjo. He has played on gold selling and mercury nominated albums, composed award winning music for the Southpark series, toured the Uk and Europe extensively, played on The Voice three times and has taught hundreds of people the 5-string banjo. He is a versatile musician and plays clawhammer and bluegrass banjo as well as plectrum jazz on the four string. Ed also plays guitar, mandolin, ukulele, fiddle and sings. He has worked as a banjo teacher and folk music workshop leader for the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) for ten years and was a lead tutor on their Full English project. He has trained in music workshop leading with Spitalfields Music, EFDSS, Music for Change, Music Leader, Sing Up, Folk Arts England, Platform for Arts and the Discover Centre. Website

PERCY COPLEY - UKULELE
Percy performs and teaches bluegrass, country and old time music and songs. And jazz and popular songs of the golden age. He teaches regularly at camps and workshops. His first instrument was ukulele, playing old songs from the 20s and 30s. At a young age he played in many places doing George Formby numbers and magic tricks! He also played in a Trad Jazz band at school (Dr Jazz) After three years at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London he embarked on an acting career doing everything from Shakespeare to musicals, occasionally playing banjo or bagpipes! He soon discovered the bluegrass scene in the UK, particularly in the south east and London area and travelled all over the country to numerous festivals. In 1992 he was hired to play music at Eurodisney in a country/bluegrass/cowboy band. Since then he has continued to play and has added 5-string Scruggs style banjo, guitar, mandolin and tenor guitar playing in bands in the Eurodisney park, hotels and resort. TREVOR HYETT - INTRO TO MUSIC DEVELOPMENT
Trevor is full of stories about music that come from making music: gigs, encounters, experiences, successes and flops. From busking on the streets of Soho as a schoolboy, to appearing on big stages before big, even huge audiences. He celebrates all who make music - whether for a living - or are amateurs who play for either peanuts or fun…or both. He has always loved music, singing and songs and has a great store of ideas and experience to pass on to all instrumentalists and singers interested in developing their musical scope. Website
